Frequently Asked Questions
What should I pay attention to before the operation?
- Stop smoking at least 2 weeks before surgery.
- Avoid alcohol and reduce caffeine intake.
- Review your vitamin and supplement use with your doctor.
- Stop taking blood thinners like aspirin 1–2 weeks before surgery.
- Avoid natural blood thinners such as garlic, cherry, or turmeric 1 week before surgery.
Which airport should I fly into?
There are two airports in Istanbul: IST (Istanbul Airport) and SAW (Sabiha Gökçen Airport). Most direct international flights arrive at IST.
Will there be a team to assist me when I arrive in Turkey?
Yes. From the moment you land at the airport, our team will meet you and accompany you to your hotel. At the hospital, our international patient team will assist you during every step of your journey. You can contact us anytime if you need support.
Do I need general anesthesia?
Surgeries like facelift, neck lift, rhinoplasty, facial feminization, facial implants, and lower eyelid surgery are performed under general anesthesia.
Minor procedures like upper eyelid surgery, lip lift, direct brow lift, otoplasty, and buccal fat removal can be done under local anesthesia.
How long does the procedure take?
Most surgeries take a few hours and require a stay of one or two nights in the hospital.
Will I be in pain?
You won’t feel any pain during surgery thanks to anesthesia. After surgery, mild discomfort is expected, but we provide pain medication to manage it. Most patients report that discomfort significantly decreases within a few days.
Will there be scars?
Scars are strategically placed in natural creases and hidden areas. Dr. Varsak uses meticulous techniques to minimize their appearance. Over time, scars fade and become barely noticeable.
What is the recovery like after an extended deep plane facelift?
Patients stay in the hospital for two days after surgery and are then transferred to their hotel. By that point, most are self-sufficient and comfortable.
- Stitches are removed on day 7.
- You may fly back home or overseas after that.
- Light activities are encouraged, but no strenuous exercise or stretching for the first month.
- No sauna or steam room for at least one month.
How many days do I need to stay in Turkey?
You’ll meet the anesthesiologist one day before surgery. Most patients can fly back home 7–9 days after surgery. Therefore, we recommend planning for an 8–10 day stay in Turkey.
When can I return to work or social activities?
Most patients are ready to return to work and resume social life around two weeks after surgery. Swelling and bruising have usually improved significantly by then.
When can I wear makeup or dye my hair?
You should wait at least 4 weeks before applying makeup or dyeing your hair. This allows incisions, especially around the hairline, to fully heal and reduces the risk of irritation or infection. Always check with your surgeon before resuming beauty treatments.
